Man in Serious Condition After Boat Ramp Fight

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC — Emergency officials responded to a reported stabbing in New Hanover County Saturday evening just before 8 p.m.

Two men reportedly got into an argument at the boat ramp at the end of Trail’s End Road, which is in Trail’s End Park.

New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office officials said Clayton Pridgen, 42, reportedly stabbed Scott Carter, age 48, several times with an ink pen. When Carter attempted to get away, officials said Pridgen chased him and began punching him.

Pridgen is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries and assault on a female.

The Wilmington Star-News reported that Carter’s daughter tried to break up the fight, but was pushed to the ground, Lt. Jerry Brewer, spokesman for the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, told the newspaper.

There is only one actual ramp at the location and it is shared between kayaks and power boats.
